The eight edition of the UM Festival delves into the intriguing phenomenon of quantum entanglement and approaches it in a playful manner within the 'quantum' fields and structures of Uckermarkt. Its title is inspired by Einstein's famous dismissal of quantum entanglement as "spooky action at a distance.”

"Spooky Distance" is an exhibition that explores the captivating realm of quantum entanglement, a concept that has challenged the fundamental principles of classical physics and fascinated both scientists and artists. By rediscovering the artistic potential of this phenomenon, the exhibition aims to shed light on the enigmatic nature of quantum entanglement and delve into its profound implications for our understanding of the interconnectedness of the universe.

According to quantum physics, in its simplest terms, quantum entanglement occurs when two or more particles become inexorably linked, causing the state of one particle to instantaneously affect the state of the other(s), regardless of the distance between them. This interconnectedness persists even when the particles are separated by vast cosmic distances, surpassing our conventional notions of space and time. In the realm of quantum physics, the behavior and properties of individual particles are intricately intertwined with the concept of entanglement. To truly comprehend a single particle, it becomes essential to consider it within the context of its entangled counterparts, emphasizing the interconnectedness and interdependence of the quantum world.

"Spooky Distance" aims to present this concept within an artistic context, highlighting the paradoxical nature of quantum entanglement and inviting visitors to explore the idea that a holistic perspective is crucial for understanding the complexities of these particles. By engaging with this subject, the festival will playfully explore the notion of unity within separation and the ability to be in multiple places simultaneously, enhancing our awareness of multiple venues in Uckermerkt at the same time. Moreover, the festival serves as a reflection of this intriguing question, pondering whether, after years of isolation during the pandemic, we were not as isolated as we actually believed.
